There’s a reason why auto service stations have one of the largest numbers of complaints with state attorney generals in every state. Some uphold good business practices and ethics, but most, unfortunately are all about profit and don’t care if they have to lie and cheat to get it. To prove this all one has to do is go to several dealers with the same problem or question. You will get many different answers, price ranges and estimates all for the same problem(s) and almost all recommending unnecessary and unneeded services or repairs.
Just ask the dealer the question of routine maintenance and what is recommended at each service. If you open your owners manual it will tell you what is recommended for normal driving habits and some may give you recommendations for harsh conditions. Regardless of your climate and weather most service advisors will tell you that the area of your country qualifies for harsh and extreme weather – they are trained to do this as it requires more services and makes them more money. Its not whether your car needs it – most people will qualify as normal conditions and require a lot less servicing per the National Highway Traffic Safety Association and AAA. The manufacturer made those owners manuals after millions of dollars were spent on design, research, and testing – I think I would listen to the manual.
On calling several dealers as to recommended mileage intervals between oil changes we got a range of 3,000 – 3,500. It didn’t matter what area of the country we called. The answer was the same. Upon reading the owners manual of several cars it says 4,000 – 5,000 for normal driving habits. We then called asking about the correct mileage to change a timing belt 60,000 to 70,000 was the answer range we got. The owners manuals gave a range of 90,000 -100,000. This is proof positive that profit hungry dealers are pushing up more expensive services, requiring additional and unnecessary services, and basically scamming and ripping off customers. We could not find an honest new car dealer in the bunch, but we did find one service and repair shop that did not require anything over the manufactures recommendations.
Our recommendations:
1) Read your owners manual and take it with you for servicing. Let the service advisor try and argue with you over when an actual service is really recommended. Don’t pay attention to his fancy charts and recommendations.
2) Check and see if your warranty covers the item and if it is really necessary.
3) Oil changes are only $14.95 at Walmart – why pay more at your dealer (dealer average is $26). The oil is the same and you can get synthetic, the best, for the price the dealer charges for regular. As an added bonus, Walmart won’t push unnecessary repairs or services on you. Walmart is also much cheaper for tires – so is BJ’s, and Discount Tire.
4) Do minor items your self. Windshield wipers cost only $4 for a set of two of the same original equipment quality. Just guess what dealers charge. We only asked a few as we could quickly see, just like with oil changes, that the dealer wants to make a lot of money - $54 including installation for the same $4 wipers. Buy then at most Auto parts stores and they will install them for free.
5) If you must use a dealer for repair, always call around. Don’t just take their word for it. Before you go to the dealer, check them out with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Find out what their customers are saying.
The most important thing to remember here is to not get scammed. Some services are needed, just check it out and make sure the dealer isn’t just trying to get a high priced and unnecessary service out of you. Get your owners manual and read the section on required services – it will save you money nest time you visit your dealer. Remember their service advisors are constantly trained just like car salespeople to get you to buy regardless of whether you may need it.

How Secure is Your Neighborhood?
Before you go out and spend thousands of dollars on a new home security system, it's a good idea to find out how secure your neighborhood is. Or to put it in blunt terms, find out how many crimes are being committed where you live. This information can have a big impact on what steps you take on the home security front.
This may sound like information you can't get without going door-to-door and interviewing everyone within a four-block radius. Have you been robbed in the last year? Has anyone broken into your car? Has anyone stolen mail from your mailbox? It sounds like a pain, doesn't it?
Fortunately, you don't have to do this. Chances are the police station has this information already. As you might or might not have suspected, most police agencies keep detailed statistics of these things. They have records of crimes committed, and can often narrow down the statistics to the block level.
As a resident, you're entitled to this information.
So, head down to your local police station (the one closest to your home), and ask to talk to the public affairs officer (or whoever is in charge of public relations). Request the crime statistics for your neighborhood. You might not get a list of who committed the crime, but you should be able to get information on how many break-ins, auto thefts, rapes, etc. have taken place over the last few years. Sometimes the records go back for decades.
This is the best way to find out how safe your neighborhood is. Do remember that the crimes that have been committed on your street in the past aren't always perfect indicators of what will happen in the future. Just because no one has been robbed on your street this year doesn't mean someone won't be burglarized tomorrow. However, if there have been a lot of crimes committed in the past, this is a pretty good indicator that a similar trend will continue.
If there have been quite a few home break-ins in your area, you may want to consider an aggressive home security plan, such as a whole home security system that can protect your house and your family by sending the police if someone tries to get in. On the other hand, if there hasn't been a break-in for years, you may feel safe with a less aggressive approach. Maybe you'll feel it's enough to install common sense home security items (i.e. replacing weak door and window locks) and adopt good security practices (i.e. don't leave doors unlocked, don't leave garages doors up, and don't leave tools in the yard burglars could use to break in, etc.).

How Safe Is Your Gun? A 12 Year Old Can Open Most Gun Safes.
A safe is essential if you have a gun at home. It is also essential that your safe is easy for you to use but difficult to access without your authorization.
Safes are made from tough, heavy gauge steel, typically half an inch thick. The safe may have two sheets of hard steel, with ball bearings sandwiched between the two layers. The ball bearings make drilling through the door or sides very difficult.
The door and lock are inherently the weakest points of any safe. Locking the safe door should operate hardened steel or titanium bolts on all four sides. Hinges are internal so that they do not present a weakness to an intruder.
Locks may be key, combination or fingerprint operated. The best safes have combinations of different types of lock and time delays before a lock will open.
Key locks can be picked, even the most complex key operated lock can be picked by an expert. An expert can find a combination code on a rotary combination dials fairly easily. A keypad combination is the best if you have a combination lock. There are no moving parts to go wrong, or to give clues to a safe cracker who is listening to the lock as he or she operates it.
It is important to keep the keypad clean. Dirty or clean keys give clues to anyone trying to get into your safe. Make sure the combination you choose bears no relationship to phone numbers, birth dates or any other data that can be guessed.
The best option is a fingerprint-operated lock. Then you can have absolute confidence that while your fingers are attached to your body that nobody will be able to open your safe without your knowledge.

How Not to Lose 10000 Dollars in the
For the last several years one Saturday of each month some friends and I would get in the car and drive to Atlantic City for a night of gambling, and it has always been one of the best days of the month.
We have never really been big gamblers we usually just stayed with the slots or the roulette table, until six months ago when someone decided we should learn to play poker because that’s where you can win lots of money fast.
So we all started playing poker in a weekly Friday night game together till we were good enough to play in the casinos. For practice I would play Online Poker in some free multiplayer poker rooms and eventually I felt confident enough to join an online casino poker room for real money.
At first I was losing hand after hand but the more hands I played the better of an understanding I was getting for the game, and every night I started making less and less mistakes and I actually started to win a few hands.
After about 2 or 3 months of this we decided it was time and we all drove to the casino to play some Poker.
We did ok for first timers, no one got rich but no one came home broke either. We decided that instead of our monthly trips we should start going every Saturday, and soon we would be leaving every Friday after work and coming back late Sunday night
Last month we decided to join this small tournament, the buy inn was only a few hundred each and the prize was 10,000 dollars, so we all decided to go for it and to try to start making real money playing poker, and in the end it paid off, I am still not sure how but I won the poker tournament and the 10,000 dollars grand prize.
Before the tournament we had all agreed that if one of us won it we would go out and have a big party with the money, but I had a much better idea
I decided that I could turn this money into a much larger amount and since it was easy to win the first time it should be easy to do it again.
Now from my personal experience I know that the Roulette table is a great way to double your money fast, there were many nights id have 20 dollars in my poker before leaving the casino and I would manage to double it on one spin of the roulette wheel, and now I had ten thousand dollars and could walk away with twenty thousand in just minutes.
So against the advice of all my friends I looked for a roulette table where the same color had won three times in a row. Once I finally found a roulette table that had come up red 3 times in a row it I place all my winnings on black and what luck it came out red again and I nearly passed out on the casino floor.
Ever since that night I have not won anything I have played. The best piece of advice I can give anyone out there is to not let winning go to your head. If you are up in the casino, go home and enjoy the money. It is important to remember that gambling in a casino or an online casino is supposed to be fun and relaxing and if it is not go read a book or something.

How Long Has It Been Since You Last Spent Time Together As A Family?
We are busy people. Every one has his or her own life to live, a job to take care of, mouths to feed, dreams to work hard for...and in the hustle and bustle of life, we tend to forget we belong to a family.
I was dumbstruck when I first knew that my sister who was older than me by 3 years had been diagnosed with breast cancer. All at once, life seemed to be so short and mortal. When I heard this news, my mind seemed to go back in time, rewinding back the moments I have had with my sister when we were young. There she was then, still a student nurse in England, while I was in secondary school. She was the one who remembered my birthday, sending me a present by parcel post, making my day. Gosh! It has been such a long time I have had spent time with my sister again. It has been years!
Indeed, when was it the last time you have had made an effort to spend time with your loved ones - perhaps your wife, or your parents, your brothers and sisters...or your closest friends?
We need to let the hustle and bustle of life move on their own, and get back a semblance of what is called "relationship". We must let the many voices of the world that draw us away from the togetherness and love of family and close friends to fade away in the background.
You will find the togetherness that can come from being with a loved one to really fill a vacuum of personal bonding to be very real when you make a conscious effort to be with him or her.
Do not let the voices of the world drown those bonds, but strive to establish bonds of love and togetherness with members of your family.
To me, it is time to make that telephone call to all the members of my family and to make the first step to renew those bonds. What about you?

How Inline Skates Saved My Unborn Child
I love inline skates, I can’t deny it. It wasn’t always like that though. A couple of years back I thought of inline skates or rollerblades that it was only something for kids, and certainly not for a grown man like me.
It was in the summer. I and my 7 month pregnant wife and our two sons were on a trip to California. We wanted to have a few days vacation before the baby was born. Because after that, it would take a while before we could go on a trip again.
Since it was sunny California, and since my two sons insisted on going rollerblading on the beach, I rented a pair of inline skates my self. Simply because I did not want them to be on their own rollerblading – they were only 8 and 10 years of age at the time. I can’t say that I was good at it, but my sons were fairly good teachers, and I got the hang of it, and was able to go straight forward without hitting the dirt too often.
The day before we should travel home again to Ohio, we took our rented car for a 2 hour trip away from the cost and further into the country. My wife did not feel well in the morning before we took off, but she said she was okay, and that we should all go. The day after we would travel home, and she would see our doctor then.
Looking back it was naive to ignore these symptoms from my pregnant wife. But we went on our way. And of course, out there, in the middle of no where, not a house in sight as far as the eye could see; my wife suddenly feels sick, I could tell that she was in pain. I turned the car around, and headed back to where we came from. After that everything seemed to go wrong like there was some kind of spell on us.
The car, a brand new Buick, suddenly stopped; still not a house in sight for as long as the eye could see. My wife was still not feeling well, and I asked the boys to sit in the front, and make room for my wife on the backseat. I tried to locate the problem under the hood, with no luck. And to complete our situation, the cell phone could not get contact to any mobile network. It looked bad; really bad, and I got scared.
I knew there was around 12 miles to the nearest town and I needed to get there fast. Luckily mine and the boys’ inline skates where lying in the trunk. I made a fast decision; the fastest way of getting help was on wheels.
I put aside all safety tips regarding downhill skating and pushed my muscles to the limit and beyond that. I left my family out there. Can you imagine being forced to do that? It took me less than 1 hour to reach the next town and get some help. It was fast, but was it fast enough?
The paramedics got my wife to the nearest hospital with the horn on. The baby came two month early and she and my wife was transported to a bigger hospital with premature equipment. They told us that it was a close call for the little baby girl, and that she almost did not make. If I had not gotten help as fast as I did, she would probably have died.
I can truly say that a pair of rented inline skates saved my daughters life. And for that I am forever grateful.
