How I spent my Vacation in Amsterdam

During the vacation I got to see many of the wonders that Amsterdam has to offer. One of the first things I went to see was the Van Gogh Museum. Having just gotten off the plane I was tired, but some of his art is just amazing to see, and I did not want to wait to see them.

After going to the museum I headed into the city center to look around, maybe do some shopping and get some food.

I had herd many things about Amsterdam and just thought that many of them were blow out of proportion, well I am here to tell you that they are all true. The first thing that hits you is the strong smell of Marijuana, and then you start to see the almost completely naked girls in the windows.

As if the prostitutes in the windows were not enough there are live sex shows and sex shops selling every imaginable sex toy known to man on every street, but this was not what interested me.

Then as I continued walking around I started to notice something besides pot, and naked females, I saw casinos.

I grew up in New Jersey, just about 2 hours from Atlantic City, and after my 18th birthday I spend a good amount of time in the casinos. So I decided to go in and check some of them out.

Well I wound up spending most of the rest of my time in those casinos. The first one I went to was Video Gaming machines only, but they had video poker, video blackjack and Video Slot machines as well, I did not really do well her in this place so I only spent about an hour, and about 100 Euro, then left.

The next place I found was a nicer place. Unlike in New Jersey, in these casinos people are dressed up in their nice clothes instead of jeans, sneakers and T-Shirts. This casino had actual table games so I tried to play some Blackjack, but there was a player at the table that either had no idea on how to play or he was somehow involved in cheating with another player, but I am inclined to think he just did not know how to play blackjack.

So I started playing at the Roulette table, and I was doing really well, at one point I was up about 400 Euro before I started losing. So I decided to leave this casino and go walking around for a while.

The next day I found myself in another casino, and I decided to see if my luck was back, I went to a slot machine and put in some money and on the third spin I won another 200 Euro, so feeling lucky I decided to enter the poker room, and that is when things got really interesting. I got into a game and boy were these guys good, but I was winning just as much as I was losing, and in the end I may have even walked away with a few Euros more then when I walked in.

After playing for about 5 hours I decided to go outside and walk around a bit to stretch my legs. I would up deciding to sit down and have a cup of coffee, but I did not know the difference between a coffee shop and a caf?.

In Amsterdam a caf? is a place to sit and have a coffee, but a coffee shop is a place to purchase and smoke Marijuana. So as I was sitting there drinking my coffee I noticed several people rolling joints. Now I have herd about this and I hade smelled plenty of pot while I was there, but I did not realize it was sold out in the open like this. So I decided to buy some pot and try it.

I went to the counter where I saw others buying their weed and the guy behind the counter was very nice and showed me a menu of what they had for sale. I wound up buying a joint of white widow. The man behind the counter told me his was very strong stuff, but I was not prepared for this.

I managed to smoke about half of the joint, before I was hit with this feeling. I have been a drinker for many years, but even in my college days I was never out of my head like this.

Eventually I managed to get out of there and get some fresh air, and some waffles. I decided, this was the time to back into the casino and win my money back, and in the end I lost another 600 Euro, and wound up falling off my chair in the casino and needed to be helped out.

So if you are going to be going to Amsterdam, be careful the grass is really strong.

How Does Rat Poison Work?

Typical active ingredients for rat poisons are are: brodificoum, diphacinone, warfarin, bromadiolone, and others. Most of these products include green dyes for a characteristic appearance; however, dogs and cats have poor color vision and to them these pellets may look like kibbled pet food.

Anticoagulant rodenticides do not produce signs of poisoning for several days after the toxic dose has been consumed. Anticoagulant rodenticides cause internal bleeding. A poisoning victim will show weakness and pallor but bleeding will likely not be obvious externally.

To understand what these poisons do, it is necessary to have some understanding of how blood clots. A blood vessel is sort of like a pipe carrying rapidly flowing blood along its path. The pipe is lined by smooth flat cells called endothelial cells which facilitate the smooth flow of the blood. If the pipe breaks, the structure of the pipe below the lining is exposed to the flowing blood inside. From there the sequence of events is as follows:

The blood vessel automatically constricts and spasms. This restricts the blood flowing to the damaged area and helps minimize blood loss.

The exposed pipe attracts circulating platelets, cloud-like cells that circulate ready to assist in clotting should the need arise. Platelets clump together over the tear in the blood vessel forming a plug within the first 5 minutes of the injury. This is all a good thing but the platelets will stay in place unless a substance called fibrin can be made to bind them.

Platelets have on their surface binding sites for coagulation proteins, which also circulate normally in inactive forms. These coagulation proteins must be activated in order to produce fibrin. There are two ways to do this: a so-called intrinsic pathway and a so-called extrinsic pathway. There are twelve clotting factors involved between these two pathways and we will not confuse you by reviewing these steps but suffice it to say that calcium is one of the factors as are 4 enzymes called serine proteases. It is the serine proteases which are relevant to rat poisoning. The end product of these pathways is protein fiber called fibrin which binds the platelets and serves as a scaffolding for the permanent healing of the vessel tear.

Anticoagulant (containing a chemical called warfarin) impairs the creation of one of the significant blood clotting factors, prothrombin. Vitamin K is an important factor in the synthesis of prothrombin clotting factors in the blood. Because of this, Vitamin K is considered an antidote for warfarin overdose. If a child or pet inadvertently consumes a warfarin-based rodenticide, the usual treatment is injections of Vitamin K. This is simplified greatly because the actual effects of the warfarin can be measured fairly accurately by measuring the blood clotting rate. This prothrombin clotting time or protime measurement is necessary for anyone on warfarin prophylaxis therapy. Tests may be done as frequently as daily to as infrequently as monthly.

How clean are your teeth?

Do you remember what things were like in the old days, when brushing your teeth was an exhausting ritual of getting a toothbrush and rubbing it back and forth in your mouth for a few minutes? Thankfully, the wonders of modern technology have solved this problem for us, with the invention of the electric toothbrush.

An electric toothbrush looks like a slightly bigger version of a normal toothbrush, but when you put in a battery and press a button, it vibrates for you. Despite the mockery they sometimes attract, however, electric toothbrushes do have a serious purpose: while they don’t really make it much easier to brush your teeth, they certainly do get your teeth a lot cleaner. The electric vibration is much faster than anything you could do by hand, vibrating tens of thousands of times per minute, meaning that dirt and bacteria are much more effectively dislodged from your teeth.

If you’re going to get an electric toothbrush, probably the best kind to get is one with a rechargeable battery. This way, instead of having to take out the batteries and put in new ones, you can just plug the toothbrush into a charger, the way you would with a laptop computer or a mobile phone – much more convenient.

However, one danger of electric toothbrushes is that people often don’t change them as often as they should. Just like with normal toothbrushes, the heads wear out. While electric toothbrushes obviously don’t require you to buy a whole new toothbrush every few months, you do need to keep buying new heads, otherwise the toothbrush’s effectiveness at cleaning may be dramatically reduced.

If you are already very good at cleaning your teeth, then spending the money on an electric toothbrush may not necessarily be worthwhile for you. If you have trouble getting everything off your teeth when you brush, however, or can never quite bring yourself to brush for as long as you should, then an electric toothbrush can make things much easier for you.

How ADD Affects Families

Typically, there is a lot of blame and frustration associated with Attention Deficit Disorder. Depending on how long the problem has gone before being diagnosed, there may be serious mental and emotional scars as family members and the child dealt with issues associated with ADD. This disorder is not only difficult for parents, but also the child with ADD and other siblings in the family.

The obvious victim of ADD is the child it affects. Being accustomed to negativity, these children usually suffer from very low self-esteem. Although they want to behave well, they have impulsive actions that typically result in constant punishment. Parents and teachers of an ADD child often are not aware or do not accept that the child suffers from a disorder and they are not always acting on a conscience level. The child, after being reprimanded and not being able to control their actions, is left feeling as though they will never be adequate or meet everyone else’s expectations.

The parents of an ADD child suffer from incredible frustration and doubt of their parenting skills. Often ridiculed by teachers, family members, and other acquaintances, they are often viewed as being the cause of their child’s behavior, as though lack of discipline is the root cause of their child’s actions. Attention Deficit Disorder sometimes places a strain on the parents’ marital relationship as well, as parents blame each other for being overly lenient or harsh in their rearing habits. This can lead to many arguments and disagreements that prove to be difficult on spouses.

An often forgotten casualty of Attention Deficit Disorder is the siblings of a child with ADD. Often not apparent, siblings in this situation often experience similar frustration and anxiety as the parents and child with ADD. Jealously sometimes plays a factor in their feelings as their sibling requires so much more attention, even if it is negative in nature. Also, these children often get the brunt of their sibling’s impulsive actions, including aggressive behavior typical of ADD. These children may also find themselves being categorized in school and other social environments because of their sibling’s behavior, which can also have a negative connotation.

In addition to immediate family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins may also be affected when a child has ADD. Depending on the closeness of the family, behavior outbursts and discipline issues may be a factor dealt with on various levels. In extreme cases, ADD may actually cause some familial relationships to be severed.

How About a “Natural High” Instead Of Those Mood Altering Drugs?

A few years ago I retired from a very active management position and suddenly found myself spending most of my time at home. I sat at the computer, read my email, played ten different kinds of solitaire, read food recipes which made me hungry and I ate a lot. I read, I watched TV and did all the crossword puzzles I could get my hands on. Not only was I bored; I had become boring. I was terribly depressed and was given Paxil, a mood altering drug. I hated the way it made me feel so I stopped taking it.

A lifesaving friend called one day and said “Let’s visit the senior community center and see what classes they offer.” My response was, “Hang out with old people, are you nuts?” You have to realize what a ridiculous response this was since I was in my 70’s. I did remember receiving some mail recently from my HMO. They had a program called “Fit for Life” that would pay for any kind of exercise class so I gave in and visited the center.

It turned out that most of the seniors were younger than I. The age was 50+ and everyone seemed lively, friendly and in great shape. They had low impact aerobic classes at low-cost; it included light weight training and a cool down with lots of stretching. I must admit I had a wonderful time. They talked me into joining the line dance class too. I had forgotten how much I loved to dance; there’s something about moving to music that makes you feel so good. The best part is you don’t need a partner!

Here comes the moral to this story. I had a doctor’s appointment about 6 weeks later. I stepped on the scale and had lost quite a few pounds. He took my blood pressure which was now normal. My cholesterol dropped below 200, triglycerides dropped 70 points and best of all he noticed the difference in my demeanor. He sat back in his chair, looked at me with a big smile and said, “What’s going on?” My chart now says ‘exercising 3 times a week’.

It’s three years later, I’m 75 years old, still taking exercise classes twice a week and teaching line dancing to all age groups (not just seniors) three times a week. I get so motivated because there’s so much energy out there. I need the group setting; I know I would never exercise on my own

My doctor laughs when I tell him I want to form a task force to pull people out of their beds and bring them to these centers. So please, don’t give up. Do it for your depression, your boredom, your anxiety and your whole sense of being. It’s invigorating!

Houston Charity Center Helps 1,500 Families In Need

The Houston Charity Center, an independent charity and thrift store dedicated to helping struggling families, now provides free assistance to over 1,500 families per year in the Houston area. The center provides emergency food, clothing and household essentials free of charge to families with substantiated needs.

The facility is easy to locate at 14105 South Post Oak Road in Southwest Houston. The well-stocked and neatly organized thrift store features gently used name-brand clothing, fabulous home-decor items, quality furniture, appliances and a number of one-of-a-kind bargains.

“We love what a good charity thrift store means to the community,” said co-founder Virginia Bowen. “Where else could you possibly find such bargains and at the same time know that you are providing resources that help struggling families get back on their feet.”

At The Houston Charity Center shoppers can be assured that their purchases and donations help the center provide food, clothing and household essentials to families in need. The charitable assistance programs are made possible by generous donations of non-perishable food, clothing, furniture, appliances, left-over garage sale lots, home-decor items, etc.- collected daily by the center\'s prompt, scheduled donation pickup service.

“By working together for the common good of our great city, we can achieve the extraordinary,” Bowen said. “No organization could singlehandedly respond to every family in crisis in a city as large as Houston. We encourage our supporters to assist additional organizations as well, such as Goodwill, Purple Heart and the Salvation Army. You can contribute to our charity effort by shopping at our store, by monetary contributions and / or by donating clothes, furniture, appliances, food, utility items or vehicles.”

The center welcomes referrals from all churches in the greater Houston area. When a church or non-profit group becomes aware of a family in need, that organization can send the family to the Houston Charity Center for assistance. The Church or non-profit group should provide the family with a letter of referral written on the organization\'s letterhead. Referrals should include the church or non-profit\'s contact information, type of assistance needed and a brief summary describing the crisis situation.

“We are totally focused on meeting the needs of low-income families who are trying to make ends meet,” said Bowen. “When you donate or shop with our organization, you play a vital part in restoring the hope and dignity to families who have found themselves in difficult situations.”

Home-Entertainment – taking it to the next level

Of course, if price is no object and you’re willing to spend anything to get the very best home entertainment system, then there is a lot of expensive specialist equipment out there for you.

The first thing you will probably want to spend money on is a better sound system – audiophiles are forever coming up with new ways to fill rooms with speakers, and get a better sound experience. If all the wires running across your floor would upset you, then don’t worry, as you can get wireless surround sound speakers for not too much more than normal ones.

If your sound system is good enough, you might even want to have sound insulation put into whichever room the home entertainment system is in, to keep the sound from escaping and disturbing others. This means that you can have the sound up very loud without having to worry about what anyone thinks of you.

When you get to the point of buying a separate TV from your normal TV just to play films on, you might think about buying a projector instead. The main problem with projectors is that they’re not much good for normal TV viewing, but if you’re planning to keep one aside and use it just for films, then it can be much better quality, as long as you have a clear wall to point it at.

To take it to the next level, you might consider putting your home cinema in its own ‘cinema room’ (sometimes called a ‘screening room’), complete with sound insulation, a screen for a projector and extra-comfortable cinema-style seating. Some enthusiasts go as far as to decorate this room to look like a cinema, with red curtains, movie posters, and a popcorn machine. If you do go this far, then you don’t have to keep the home cinema just for yourself – you can invite friends over to enjoy it too, and even hold screenings of particularly rare and good films.

Home-Design - when to call in the professionals

When you’re redesigning your home, the first question you need to ask yourself is whether you’re going to hire a professional or do it yourself. The answer depends on what you’re planning on doing.

There are plenty of things that you can do yourself quickly and easily: painting, putting up shelves and cupboards, all that kind of thing. Anything you can find in the DIY shop will come with instructions that should let anyone who is reasonably experienced in DIY put it up.

However, if you want to do something more complicated – converting a room into a bathroom or a kitchen, or building an extension, for example – then you’re going to need a professional.

When it comes to home design, however, it can be tough to know exactly who to hire. For basic things, you need a handyman, but for more complex projects you might need a builder. To do anything in the bathroom, you probably need a plumber. If you’re giving your whole house a makeover, you might even want to hire a professional designer, who will look at the overall picture and come up with ideas to make your house a better place to live in.

While pro designers can be expensive, they are usually worth the money – you wouldn’t think it from the amateur jobs you see on some TV makeover shows, but they really do know what they’re doing. There are some cowboys out there, though, so make sure the person you’re used has all the relevant qualifications: it’s best to ask for references, as that means you can go and see for yourself houses that they have worked on previously, and see if you like them. Be careful on judging them simply because they’re not your taste, however – remember that a good designer will reflect what the people asked for, not just force their own tastes on people.

Home Styles

Whether you’re buying or selling, reading real estate ads can be confusing. Here’s a primer on the styles mentioned in the ads.

Home Styles

What’s the difference between a Tudor and Colonial style? What about a Colonial and Dutch Colonial? Read on to find out.

“Colonial,” “Georgian,” or “Federal” style

Terms used when talking about a two (could be 3 or two and one half) story house that is very symmetrical. The front door is in the center of the house. There are an equal number of windows on each side. There is an upstairs window over each downstairs window and over the front door. There are usually exterior shutters at the windows. (Note: The houses which inspired this very traditional style were built in the early days of our country and are seen mostly in the East.)

“Tudor” style

A style of home that borrows from merry old England. It typically has exposed heavy dark beams. Some of the beams are perpendicular, some horizontal, and some at a forty five degree angle. The exterior walls are usually stucco between the beams. The lower story is usually of brick or stone. The upper story often has sections that are cantilevered out over the lower story. Box bay windows and diamond shaped panes are frequent features as are large chimneys.

“Dutch Colonial” style

Very much like colonial style except that the roof is a gambrel roof. That is, it’s shaped like most folks think of a barn roof. It slopes down from a center ridge line and then, usually a little more than half way to the edge, the angle of the slope becomes sharper creating a second ridge at the front and back where the angle changes.

“Spanish,” “Mexican,” “Hacienda” style

Seen mostly in the South and West of our country, this style incorporates stucco or adobe type bricks and red half round roof tiles. These homes are often built in a “U” shape with the walls of the house extended to enclose the “U.” This design device can give a pleasant feeling of privacy to outdoor areas. Door and window openings with curved tops and wrought iron grilles, door hinges, and handles are frequent features.

Summary

When looking at homes, you’ll find particular styles appeal to you. Once you identify the styles, you can narrow your search for the perfect home.

Home Office Furniture

But the office area at
the home should resemble the office in every sense. Just because there
is no boss who comes in to check on you after every few minutes, it
doesn't mean that the office area in your home should be kept untidy
or uncomfortable. The perfect way to make your home look like an
office is by using the home
office furniture
. This furniture is not similar to the office
furniture and is designed to go well with the home environment.
Computer desks, desk chairs, regular desks, desk lamps, book shelves
and file cabinets are some of the home office furniture. They are
designed to look casual, softer and to blend with the surrounding home furniture. The furniture
should also suit the likings of others members in the family. The Home
office furniture allows working at home after the work in the office.
It provides a relaxed atmosphere. Some jobs such as freelance are
required to work from home and hence this furniture provided a
peaceful environment to work without any interruptions. The home
office furniture should enhance the beauty of the home and also one's
ability to do the work in a well organized and comfortable manner.
There should be a blend of both. If there is a great looking home
office chair which isn't comfortable, there is no use is going for it.

Similarly a perfect home office desk with respect to comfort and
organization but its ugly, then better avoid buying it. When the home
office furniture is comfortable, the productivity level of the person
increases and helps maintain a healthy back. Now a days we could see
many ads coming in the newspaper or various websites, whereby the
employers ask for qualified personal that can work from home and can
meet the deadlines. The freelancers are the boss as they don't have
to maintain a time schedule. But to get such a feeling, a nice office
environment also plays a vital role. And, most importantly is your
office furniture because when you sit to work, you would spend hours
there. So preferably look for comfortable and a taste of elegance
furniture which blends perfectly with your office mood.
Many people over estimate the available space at their home and end up
buying home office furniture that do not fit their house. The customer
should note down the exact available space for the furniture.

And note it down to refer while shopping. The different type of home
office furniture is available in different shapes, colors and sizes.
Everyone can find a one that can suit his home perfectly. They are
made of wood like pine, teak, mahogany and maple and also of metal,
chrome. Home office furniture can also be used for the children's work
room where they can do their school work.

Home is Where Your School Is

Home is you and your children’s primary school. In it cognitive, emotional, spiritual and social aspects are developed and honed. In fact, home contributed to the totality of your persona.

Home never ceases to be a school. It continues to be such in order to make and mold you. It can be a school ad infinitum.

Children are devoted to learn new things. This hunger for education exists within and outside the school. It is long-lasting and it follows the children. Thus, even if they are out of the basic institution for education they can learn a lot.

Even if you are not enrolled in a university, you can still acquire knowledge. In addition, this learning can be had without traveling much. Yes, you can have same knowledge that other students acquire even when you just stay at home. This system is called home schooling.

Home schooling, otherwise known as home education, is a curriculum designed for children to study at home. This is in contrary to the usual education offered by an education institution like the parochial or public school.

When parents feel that complete education can no way be acquired in private or public schools, they resort to home schooling.

Home schooling is legal in all parts of the United States. However, said laws may differ from one state to another. In fact, home schooling evolves around three categories. They are private school laws, equivalency laws and home education laws. Inquiry must be done first in order to know which of the three laws are suited to you and your children.

Home schooling is the focal point of a substantial minority in the United States. This minority is composed of parents who desire to give their children the best education that they can get.

Home schooling is also given to gifted children who are given special attention in connection with their talents and abilities. Most school failed to meet the attention necessary. Thus, parents resort to home schooling as a remedy. Another reason for home schooling is the preservation of values and religion.

Undeniably, home schooling is the most thrilling innovation in education nowadays.

Making your kids stay at home to study will not make them social misfits. This is because a crowd is not necessary to learn to adjust socially. Adequate exposure and proper guidance are the things necessary to make your children acquainted with the world.

The concept of home schooling has started way back in 1850 when most of the American children learned their lessons at home. It has been 156 years since its inception but said concept continue to astound both parents and students.

Great changes have occurred in the past 25 years. In fact, said revival in the concept of home schooling has resulted to more and more children learning at home. In fact, the number has increased to three million and still growing...

With home schooling around, you can select the subjects that you can teach your child. You need not worry about several fields of concentration since they can take care of them when they are already young adults or teenagers.

Learn first what your child is interested in learning. Also discover their skills and talents. From there, you can have the idea where to start. You will also be given the idea on what lessons and activities to give emphasis.

Teach your children to live their dreams. Start by giving them a good home schooling background.

Home Entertainment - music to your ears?

Not so long ago, watching films at home was a hopeless experience. You could only buy or rent poor-quality videos with a grainy picture and bad sound. The experience was terrible when you compared to the big-screen, surround-sound cinema.

Now, though, the advent of DVD and home surround sound means that watching movies at home doesn’t have to be inferior to watching them in the cinema. In fact, many people now think it’s better – after all, it’s cheaper, and you don’t have to put up with other people making noises while you’re trying to watch the film. Home entertainment systems (also known as home cinemas) are getting cheaper, better and easier to construct all the time.

So what are the ingredients of a home entertainment system? Basically, there are three things: a source of high quality video and audio, a display for the video, and speakers for the audio. To begin with, you should look for a DVD player. Although you can get DVD players for nothing now, you should get a good one if you’re going to use it as part of a home entertainment system. Cheap players may output inferior quality picture and sound, and might even have trouble playing some DVDs at all.

The next step is a big television, either flat with an LCD or plasma screen, or perhaps even a projection TV – be careful with projection though, as it can break if you plan to use your TV for video games. You should consider getting an HDTV version of whatever you choose if you want to future-proof your system and make your films look just that little bit better.

Finally, you should get some good surround sound speakers, together with an amplifier or stereo system to drive them. Although you can get systems now with ridiculous numbers of speakers, Dolby 5.1 is still the best system to go with, as it is the most widely supported.

Home Dumbwaiters

Dumbwaiters have, in the past, been considered a product that only luxury homes are found with, however, the installation of dumbwaiters have been significantly beneficial to a wide variety of homes, luxury or not. A dumbwaiter is a small elevator that is installed in the home to make it easier to transport materials from one floor to another. Things such as groceries, firewood, laundry, and many other items can be moved from the ground floor to a second story, and back again with ease. This makes it much simpler for those with handicaps to go about their normal daily lives, without the help of others.

Dumbwaiters for the home are very beneficial in helping to move firewood from the basement to the living room, food from the kitchen to rooms on upper stories, which comes in very handy if there is someone who is ill or bedridden, as food and dishes can be transported to and from the kitchen, without the caretaker worrying about carrying items up and down the stairs. Dumbwaiters are also an excellent device for moving laundry from upper levels in the home to the laundry room or garage, which may be located on a lower level. Many use dumbwaiters in split-level homes to transport their groceries from the driveway to the kitchen, which may be located at the top of the stairs.

When choosing to have a dumbwaiter installed, things you should consider are price and functionality. You should determine how much weight you will need the dumbwaiter to support. Most can support up to 500 pounds or more with each lift load. Many people have sought to install dumbwaiter elevators for transporting wheelchair bound family members to upper stories, as well as those with arthritis, or other ailments that make mobility and the travel up and down stairs difficult or impossible. You also need to determine where to have your dumbwaiter installed to give you the optimal benefit. For instance, if you are planning to use it for laundry transportation, then it would make more sense to have it end in your laundry room, or if you plan to carry food on it, then having it come out in the kitchen would be your best option.

Wherever you have it installed, a dumbwaiter in your home can help to alleviate a lot of leg work that may be involved in carrying items up and down stairs to help those who cannot help themselves. Or, if you need a dumbwaiter for yourself, then you can do the things around your home that you would normally need outside help to do, such as transporting laundry and carrying dishes. Dumbwaiters for homes have taken a lot of stress off those who are caring for disabled family members, as well as those who are disabled themselves. By having a dumbwaiter installed, people with limited mobility or disabilities can begin to gain back some of their independence by not needing to rely on outside help or other family members to aid them with their day to day living needs.

Home air cleaners can be a very important part of our everyday life.

Home air cleaners are becoming a popular feature in many ordinary homes, but there was a time when, it seemed, we lived quite happily without them. The increasing amount of chemical and other pollutants in our atmosphere is making home air cleaners, such as electronic and Hepa air purifiers, ever more necessary, however, and while their protection was once only used in specialised circumstances, allergy relief air purifiers are becoming more and more a part of the ordinary household.

The technology behind modern home air cleaners and electronic air purifiers dates back to the nineteenth century, when two separate groups developed equipment loosely based on similar ideas for two distinctive purposes. The Dean brothers invented a purifier to protect fire fighters, while a man named Siebe developed equipment that would supply divers with a purified air supply. Later scientists further developed these technologies, bringing us ever closer to the invention of the home air cleaners that we use today.

The Second World War lead to further developments in the technologies that were destined for the home air cleaner, as soldiers found themselves working more and more in dangerous environments that required protection from radioactive and other potentially poisonous substances. This resulted in the invention of Hepa air purifiers, which remain one of the most effective air purifiers available today.

Further disastrous developments in human history lead to even more advanced air cleaners – outbreaks of Ebola in Africa, for example, reminded the world of the importance of clean air, and it was around this time that electronic air purifiers became available.

It seems that dangerous situations were the spur that lead ultimately to the creation of the home air cleaner. Unfortunately, we continue to live in dangerous times, and while we might not be fire fighters or divers, we still require a constant supply of clean air to survive. Home air cleaners can bring this air to us, creating healthy sanctuaries for us in this modern day world.

Home air cleaners can have a bid impact on our health.

Helpful Household Tips for Allergy Sufferers

One of the most common causes of indoor allergy symptoms is the house dust mite. It’s estimated that up to 85% of asthma cases—eczema and hay fever too—are caused by the fecal matter and cast-off skins of these little critters. These allergy triggers are only a couple microns in size – invisible to the naked eye. They are abundant in almost all homes, with infestations prevalent in bedrooms and in bedding – the dead skin cells we naturally exfoliate every day are the food source for these microscopic creatures. Protective measures can be taken to at least limit one’s exposure to dust mite populations and to reduce their effect in the home. Here are 10 steps that will help keep your allergy symptoms at bay.

1.) Encase your mattress and pillows with a zippered hypoallergenic allergen barrier that blocks any particles larger than 1 micron in size and that fully encases the mattress and pillow. Doing this will eliminate new mites from populating these areas and will lock in dust mites that are already living there, keeping you free from their allergens.

2.) At least once every week, wash your sheets in very hot water. The water should be at least 130°F. If your bedding is made of fabrics that cannot be washed in hot water, you can put it in the freezer for one to two days, which will effectively kill dust mites. Every 2 to 4 weeks, you should also wash blankets and mattress pads.

3.) It is recommended that severe allergy sufferers also completely cover their box springs and their comforters or duvets with allergen barrier encasements as dust mites can infest these two areas as well.

4.) Keep the temperature in your home and especially in your bedroom below 70°F if possible and the humidity below 50 percent because dust mites thrive in warm, humid climates. Leaving your sheets unmade each morning allows them to dry out (nighttime perspiration) and keeps the bed cooler because less heat is being trapped beneath the sheets. In addition, dust mites are photophobic, afraid of the light so are less likely to settle in an unmade bed exposed to sunlight.

5.) While encasements keep dust mites from entering your mattress and pillows, allergens and dust may still accumulate on the surface. It’s important to wipe down encasements each time that you change your sheets or remove them to be washed. You should also wash your encasements in hot water every 8 weeks or so.

6.) Always vacuum beneath your bed and mattress. Damp mop any hard flooring and use a damp rag to dust. Sweeping a dry floor may only stir up dust and allergens.

7.) If it’s in your budget to do so, remove carpeting, especially in the bedroom, and replace with hardwood flooring. Replace drapes and cloth blinds with wood or vinyl blinds. If you prefer to have carpeting, make sure to vacuum weekly.

8.) Wash children’s soft-cloth toys in 130°F water if possible, otherwise place them in the freezer for a full 24 hours to kill off dust mites, if they are non-washable.

9) Dust mites also consume the dead skin cells that Fido and FiFi exfoliate, and pet dander itself is yet another common allergen trigger that affects many people. If you or your children suffer from allergies or asthma, don’t allow cats or dogs or any other pets in the bedroom.

10) Not only can cigarette & fireplace smoke be carcinogenic, they also can exacerbate any respiratory condition. Don’t smoke in the house and if you have a fireplace in your bedroom, don’t use it.

Heartache Hurts - God Do You Hear

What is heartache? It is pain. There are two kinds of pain, one where you take a tumble, cut a finger or bump your head. This type of pain can be eased with the help of a band aid or ointments, but heartache is not an easy task to remedy.

For a broken heart there is no cure

I would say a great many of us has suffered heartache where we have endured pain over the kids family even work colleagues. This form of heartache is just a minor tremor to the earthquake of sorrow that forces it self on some people

Take the mother who outlives her child, what could be more agonizing for mummy to be at the bedside of the baby she nurtured from birth only to have that child taken from her.

Then we have the poor unfortunate heart broken fathers who lose their children all because mother thinks it is in the children's best interest to be without a dad (In some cases this action is necessary) but for many dads who still want to be part of there children's lives, I ask moms to think again for the kids sake.

How many times has an engine been turned on with a hose to the exhaust which daddy uses as an inhaler to end it all, and in some sorry events taken the kids with him?

The heartache when informed a loved one was killed in battle. It is painful when it is time to say goodbye to mum/dad, when they leave to make a new life in land beyond the sky.

Lord hear the prayers of the world to put a stop to these 21st century atrocities that is causing so much heartache.
Tsunamis, Tornadoes, Earthquakes, and Hurricanes, what on earth can you possibly have up your sleeve to spring on some poor country next?

They say God works in mysterious ways and have his reasons. We understand you may not be happy with the sinners of today like the muggers and murderers walking the streets, but why on earth do the poor unfortunate innocent people have to suffer because of the actions of others. We need construction not destruction in our lives

There is no turning the clock back as the damage is done, so many people have had there fair share of pain and suffering and it needs to stop. It would take a miracle to sort out this whole sorry mess that the world is in today.

You gave focus to the blind you even rose from the dead, and we all know miracles are made in heaven.
So we ask you God for the last time for one more miracle and that is to turn back the hand of time.

Healthful Benefits of Using Adjustable Beds

Adjustable beds are often times found in hospitals and nursing homes because of the medical benefits it offers. These beds provide comfort to people who are bed ridden or to those who have to stay in bed for long periods of time. These beds are most ideal for people who have undergone surgery as getting in and out of bed would be easy. They can be operated electronically, an elderly, invalid or handicapped user will be able to move without the immediate assistance of an attendant.

An adjustable bed however, is not just for those people with medical conditions only. It can also provide a comfortable and stress-free sleep. This is necessary for the over-all health of a person. A good night’s sleep provides the body with much needed rest. Likewise, sleep is most important in the repair of body cell and tissue.

So many people are using uncomfortable beds which could be the cause of many aches and pains in the morning. As we spend one third of our lives sleeping, we must ensure that our bed would be comfortable enough. The adjustable bed is an option that should be considered if we want to avoid sleepless nights that can develop into health conditions that could impair our well being.

One benefit of adjustable beds is improved blood circulation. The bed can be adjusted to allow blood circulation to flow continuously throughout the body. The flat and hard surface of ordinary beds would cause pressure points on all parts of the body. Numbness of arms and legs as well as a feeling of sluggishness will be experienced as a result of poor or decreased blood circulation. By slightly elevating the legs and upper body, a more natural sleeping position will be achieved and proper blood circulation will be ensured thus creating less pressure on the heart.
Sleeping with the chest slightly elevated would ease pressure on the lungs and allow it to function more effortlessly. People suffering from asthma and other breathing difficulties would pile up pillows to breathe more easily. Doctors would often recommend an adjustable bed so that the chest and the head will be elevated so the patient will be more comfortable and breathe with ease.

Adjustable beds have greatly improved through the years. You can now find adjustable beds with heat and massage units. These added options would naturally mean bigger investment but try to look at it this way. An adjustable bed would ensure that you have a good and restful sleep- all this is due to the ability of the bed to adapt to whatever height, angle and even temperature that the user will find to his liking.

Headstone Monuments: Paying Tribute to the Deceased

Monuments are a way to pay tribute to the life of an individual who has passed on. They are often installed in cemeteries and are similar to traditional headstone markers. Monuments come in many different styles, shapes, and sizes. Headstone monuments are smaller, yet still a memorable way to cherish and pay tribute to the gravesite of a loved one.

Monuments can literally be less than one foot tall or as high as desired. In the past, monuments were generally larger than what they seem to be today; however, their purpose still remains the same. Monuments can come in the shape of an object, such as an angel or cross, or they can have a more traditional look. Headstone monuments are found at the head of a gravesite and they offer grave visitors information pertaining to the lady or gentleman buried below. Headstone monuments are likely to list the name of the deceased, their date of birth and death, and an epitaph will likely be engraved. An engraved epitaph is typically a short phrase used to summarize the life or qualities that a deceased individual once had.

Headstone monuments can come in many different forms; however, headstone monuments are monuments that are positioned at the front or head of a gravesite. Upright monuments may be about waist high; however, there are no limits on the amount or styles of headstone monuments that can be purchased or custom made. It is possible for a headstone monument to be a bench. These benches are often used for visitors to view important information pertaining to the deceased or sit and reflect on his or her life.

As with caskets or other burial accessories, headstone monuments can come customized according to the preference of the family. Headstone monuments are traditionally made out of granite; however, other materials may also be used. Granite is a material that can come in different colors or designs. In addition to an epitaph, it is possible for a picture or drawing of the deceased to be attached to a monument.

Although the tradition may not be as popular as it once was before, many family members still choose to be buried next to each other or in a nearby cemetery plot. When a husband or wife passes on, it is not uncommon for their surviving partner to purchase two cemetery plots, side by side. Upright headstone monuments can also be used to mark multiple cemetery plots. Especially in cases concerning husbands or wives, it is possible for one large headstone monument to contain information pertaining to both individuals. If one individual passes on before the other, one side of the headstone monument will remain blank until the surviving partner passes on.

Personalized headstone monuments are a popular and special way to pay tribute to a family member who has passed away. Your family and close family friends will be likely to visit the gravesite for many years to come. A personalized or traditional headstone monument is a beautiful way to offer remembrance for your loved one whether it be one year from now or a hundred.

Head Lice Myths

Head lice are one of the most commonly misunderstood topics today. There are several myths about head lice, some of them may have a thread of truth to them, but most are simply widespread misunderstandings.

- Head lice can jump from person to person: This is untrue; head lice cannot jump or fly. They spread through direct contact, or indirectly by means of personal items such as hat, combs, brushes etc.

- It is absolutely necessary to use a pesticide in my house to rid it of head lice: Though you can choose to do this if you want, it really is not necessary and not recommended. Head lice can only live for about 2 to 3 days when they are not on a human host. If there happens to be lice eggs on carpet or furniture, when they hatch they will have to feed within a short period of time or they will die. Vacuum the carpet and furniture, and then concentrate on bedding, clothes, combs, brushes and stuffed animals.

- You can treat a head lice infestation with petroleum jelly: Though a petroleum jelly may smother lice, it will not kill the nits, or lice eggs. In addition, it is very hard to remove it from the hair.

- It is necessary to shave the hair when treating for head lice: It is true that this will help to more easily treat for head lice, but it can be a traumatic experience, especially for children. Of course this is much more true for girls than boys, but a boy may not like his head shaved either. The better option is to treat the condition, and carefully remove all the nits with a specially designed nit removal comb.

- You can use gasoline or kerosene to kill head lice: CAUTION: This is not only an extremely ineffective means of trying to treat head lice; it also does not work. You should never use gasoline or kerosene on any part of the body as the fumes are combustible and may cause injury or death. Many children have been hurt or killed when parents try to use this form of treatment.

- Lice can transmit disease: Though head lice are an uncomfortable and embarrassing condition, it has few risks. The danger is in a rash or lacerations on the scalp due to scratching that may become infected.

- Clean people do not get head lice: This is completely untrue. Anyone can catch head lice, no matter how clean they are. In fact, head lice prefer a clean, healthy scalp, but it matters little to these tiny insects whose head they infest.

To properly combat head lice, you need to know the facts. Learn as much as you can about head lice infestation and you will be better prepared if one of your children comes home with these little pests.

Head Lice is Epidemic in Some Public Schools

Today the problem of head lice has reach epidemic proportions in some public schools, as well as other group settings, such as childcare centers. Time and again children are sent home with lice. After treatment they are sent back to school only to catch lice again within a month or two.
The head lice epidemic in public schools is truly a nightmare for some parents, especially if their family has a case of persistent head lice. With persistent head lice many treatments don’t seem to work, and even after several treatments the lice and nits are still in the hair.
The best way to tackle the head lice problem is by taking preventative measures. Once your family has head lice, getting rid of it can be very difficult, not to mention a lot of hard work, so it makes sense that taking preventative precautions is one of your best defenses against these parasitic insects.
If you have children that are school age, or in childcare, make sure that they understand first of all, what lice is. Ensure that they understand having lice does not make them bad, or dirty, but that it can be miserable and hard to get rid of.

Let your children know what types of behavior will increase their chances of being exposed to head lice. Ask them not to share coats, hats, brushes or any other personal items at school
Teaching your children not to share personal items will go a long way in helping to prevent a head lice infestation in your family, but it’s not enough. While your children are spending time within group settings, such as school or preschool, you should vigilantly check their hair at least once a week for signs of head lice or nits.
The best way to do this is by using a specially designed comb for removing head lice. Under a bright light, examine your child’s head for any signs of the insects, and also run the comb through their hair to remove any possible freeloading louse.
This may seem to be an extreme inconvenience, but it is nothing compared to the work you will face if your child does bring home head lice. Once your family has head lice you will be faced with treating the hair multiple times, as well as nightly combing to remove nits. Even then you won’t be done; you will have to deal with the monumental task of vacuuming and cleaning every surface in your home, washing endless laundry, and even delousing your car.
By far, the best option is to prevent head lice.

Have You Heard? Families That Play Together Stay Together

Take a chance! When you tell the family that it's games night at your home, the kids might think you've come unhinged, but make it non-optional and make sure you make it fun! Take it from me, I've done it and it works. Everyone joins in either as a player or a spectator when we played games on XBox. The house is filled with laughter and cheering and it's nice to see everyone having a good time. Playing games is ageless and there is virtually no generation gap.

Plan for one night a week where everyone will be home. If you don't have one night where everyone will be there, you need to juggle things around so you have at the very least one night where the entire family is home.

Then there's board games to consider. You could play everything from Monopoly to Snakes and Ladders depending upon the ages of the children. You could set up themes to play a game for example a Hawaiian theme. Have pineapples and things like that, everyone wears leis. Each person could talk about what they know or as questions about Hawaii. Use your imagination. You know what your family likes.

The game itself doesn't have to relate to the theme; just the atmosphere and conversation. You could be playing Yatzee, Life, Clue, Sorry, Snakes and Ladders, Don't Spill the Beans or Uno. It doesn't matter which game you're playing. You could incorporate your theme into various intervals throughout the game. Each time someone lands on a red square everyone must take a bite of pineapple. Spin a ten and all must eat a macadamia nut! If you select the Go to Jail card, it's your turn to do the Hula dance. Get the idea?

At the end of each game night, discuss next week's theme. Family members can take turns choosing the theme and the accompanying snacks and décor. If it's too much for one person to coordinate or if children are younger, these tasks can be delegated. Your three year old can decide she wants a clown theme complete with balloons and everyone will wear clown make-up. Your 6th grader made opt for an art theme and paint or draw the decorations.

If you want to keep it simple without the extras, that's okay too. You're sure to be a hit with games and their favorite snacks. Everyone will want to come back again and again.

This should be an inexpensive night. You can pick up new games at thrift stores and garage sales for $1.00. Most decorations you may already have around the house or can be picked up at the same places you're getting second hand games or even the dollar store.

Make it fun. Your children won't remember and thank you for all the hours you put in a work, but they will always cherish the family time together. The family that plays together stays together. Have fun!

Guide to Stair Lifts

People who have problem in mobility often find it difficult to move up and down on the stairs. A stair lift can make life much easier for them. Basically a stair lift is a chair which is track bolted down to a staircase. With only a push of a button the lift can be used to carry people, luggage, groceries laundry and anything else up and down. These lifts also come with a remote control that guides them to the desired floor. They also have swivel seats that turn away from the staircase. These chairs can be fixed on any side of the staircase with the help of a professional. So as to save space they also have a folding track at the lower landing area.

There are a variety of options available in case of stair lifts, with different shapes sizes and price’s. The technology and quality has improved a lot as compared to earlier times. Now stair lifts are less noisy and entail no risk of malfunctioning. They now come with remote control that enables us to control them from either of the directions. They have a comfortable seat and footrest. The start and stop movements are very smooth. Stair lifts also come with rechargeable batteries so that they can be used during power outages. They need to be parked in the correct place, and if not so then a signal will warn you of it.

All of the safety measures are kept in mind while making these chairs to ensure there is no hazard. They automatically stop whenever there is a problem with the armrest or seat and whenever the chair reaches the bottom or the top. They also come with child safety and can be locked so that children don't use them. Stair lift makes your life simpler and easier and guarantee's you that your loved one will not fall down the stairs. When stairs become a problem, it is often required that the person be shifted to the ground floor, but with stair lift you don’t have to change your house even a bit. It also reduces wear and tear of various joints in the person’s body, especially when he/she is not allowed to walk much.

Green light for Environmental Stewardship

Nature is our biggest asset and a gift of God to us. But unfortunately we are slowly losing it due to our ignorance. We do not give much thought when we through litter pollute our air or make too much noise. All these and other factors are the main reasons which are damaging the nature. And the sad part is that none of us is taking responsibility of this act. There are only a few organizations who are working towards preserving the nature. Most of the organizations that are working towards preserving the nature are doing so privately. But there are few like Natural England who is backed up by Government as well. This shows that the organization is really committed towards achieving its goals.

Environmentalists are becoming more and more concerned about the decrease in the greenery around the world. We all know that we need greenery as much as we need water. Recently, governments from around the world have also started taking steps to protect the environment. The England Government recently announced Environmental Stewardship scheme. The scheme has been accepting applications from 1 January 2007.

This scheme is open to every farmer and land manager. Almost 3.5 millions have been brought in by 25,000 Entry Level Stewards (ELS) under environment management. There is also another targeted scheme under the name of Higher Level Scheme (HLS). This scheme only supports the highest quality applicants. Recent years have seen Natural England accept almost 1,000 HLS which covers 65,000 hectares. All ELS and HLS applications need to be approved from the new Rural Development Programme.

Natural England is actually an organization that works for conservation of people, natural beauty, wildlife and biodiversity. The organization is working towards managing the nature in such a way that it is preserved for our present as well as future generations. Natural England has divided its goals into four strategies, these are stated as below:
Conserve and enhance the natural environment of England
Make the natural environment such that people enjoy it more.
Manage and use the natural environment.
Make such decisions that they secure the future of the natural environment.

Environmental organization plans and manages its practices in such a way that they will benefit the natural wildlife. Due to all the contributions Natural England have made to the conservation of nature it is now considered as the statutory adviser of the Government. It responsibilities include natural parks, Heritage Coasts and Areas of Natural Beauty. Natural England is not only responsible for conserving the landscapes and wildlife but also the marine and coastal life. It is running many natural programs that focus on different parts of nature.

It is up to us as well to ensure that these and other such organizations keep working. We can also contribute towards their cause by helping them. You do not need to do much even planting a small tree is more then enough. It is also our moral duty to ensure that our future generations are able to enjoy the nature as we are able to do today.

Good, Clean Fun All Year Long

All year long, families enjoy heading outside to spend time together-barbecues, camping trips, football games and more.

Families look forward to this special time spent enjoying the great outdoors, but moms know that these festivities often bring with them a heap of grass-and-dirt-stained laundry to tackle. According to a study conducted by Unilever, moms claim that stains are their number one laundry problem, with 54 percent saying they find grass stains very difficult to remove.*

However, there's good news for moms who love that their families are outside, active and having fun, but dread the laundry-room fight to remove the stains from their families' outdoor wear. There's a new laundry solution that provides exceptional cleaning.

Wisk Dual Action is a three-times concentrated detergent with stain-dissolving power, specially formulated to double as a pre-treater for stubborn stains.** When used as both a pretreater and detergent, it is tougher on grass stains than the leading detergent and pretreater combined.*** Tough and compact, a 32-oz. bottle cleans up to 32 loads of laundry-the same amount as a 100-oz. bottle of traditional detergent.

"We believe that you should go out and have fun, even if you get dirty in the process," says Howard Kaiserman, Laundry RTC Director, Unilever. "We've developed Wisk Dual Action-a concentrated formula that is both an effective pretreater and a great whole wash detergent. One small capful gets your whole wash clean without having to buy an extra pretreater product."

Now, no matter what the occasion, moms can encourage their families to go ahead and get dirty, knowing Wisk Dual Action will handle the tough stains and help keep the family outdoor fun worry-free. The detergent is available at local grocery and mass retail stores.

A proven stain fighter allows families to enjoy good, clean fun-even if they get dirty in the process.

Golden Years and Tears - Pension In One Hand And Out With The Other

The Golden years a time in all our lives where we look forward to retirement, long gone are the days when pensioners were in their prime.

Now the prime candidates for the government's new ruling of raising retirement to the ripe old age of 67. How many of the golden oldies will make it down to the local post office to collect their pensions.

What happened to the days when grandparents sat you on their lap and told funny stories of their child hood?
Kiddies of the 21st century now listen to tales of woe of how life was a struggle or the pain suffered because the list for a hip replacement was as long as your arm. Sometimes it makes you wonder why our children today are full of so much anger and hate, when the stories told do not fill them with laughter just sadness.

Turned are the golden years into olden years more like where old timers are liberated to do as they please. Do what? Have you ever tried skiing on a Zimmer frame or sky diving with a pacemaker?

Slave Labour (excuse the pun) slavery went out with the ark or so we believed but is back with vengeance.

For e.g. the government took measures to protect pensioner from the freezing winter by giving a heating allowance only to take it back forcing them to hobble through blizzards to work some more. Compassion is far from their thoughts when enforcing new laws. These governing bodies certainly know how to take the living out of life of all human beings.

The days and dreams of ever attempting a dare devil stunt for all golden oldies (pensioners) will forever remain a memory. To have lived their lives in the fast lane will always be in their thoughts.

I hasten to add it is never too late to sit the kiddies on your lap once again and fill them with knowledge on how to get the best out of life under the jurisdiction of others.
There will always be rules/regulations that we as a nation are not happy with, so what can we do about it? In some cases choices are zilch, so on with the thermals to clock on for another eight hour shift.

But for those still in their prime give them the opportunity to live your dream for you.

Children in the twentieth century are going to struggle like that of the old days without an education. To be able to succeed or cope in this world then knowledge is a necessity. Members of parliament are where they are today because they furthered their education to their own advantage, if that's what it takes for a child to have life put back into living then act now.

There are many active pensioners who this article is not personally directed at but for those who are tired, then I say take heed all political members and let the golden oldies enjoy what ever little time they have left on this planet so they can go prune their roses.

Going Up and Down the Stairs Made Easier

There are several ways to provide access between residential floor levels for both the elderly and the handicapped. There are wheelchair lifts, residential elevators, platform lifts, ramps, stair lifts, etc. So far, the commonly and widely used method is the stair lift.

A stair lift can be installed in any home, normally at the edge of your already existing staircase. This transportation system includes a chair (with a footrest and armrests) and a motor. The person can simply sit on the chair while the stair lift gently takes both the chair and the one who occupies it up and down the floor levels. This is a convenient and safe alternative for the tiresome ascending and descending using the typical stairways.

Stair lifts come in a variety of lengths to suit different staircases. However, it must be remembered that a qualified and reliable technician must personally get the necessary measurements (angle and length) of your stairs at home. This “examination” process may involve asking the user some relevant questions such as the individual’s mobility limitations, whether the eventual user is right or left handed, and the like.

Stair lifts today are reliable, quiet and easily controlled with a joystick. Such joystick may be set on the armrest, depending on the individual needs and on the model and make of the stair lift. A stair lift can also be controlled with a remote control. This is helpful especially when more than one user is present in the home. By using the remote, the lift can be summoned from either bottom or top of the stairways.

In a stair lift, there is a park point where the stair lift gets to be recharged. The device also starts or stops gently, eradicating the possibility of bumping or jerking. The footrest is also well appointed, as well as the swiveling seat of the lift.

When electrical power supply is not available, the battery takes over which will ensure uninterrupted movement downwards or upwards of the stairs. Also, it has a troubleshooting display so the engineer can easily and rapidly resolve a malfunction.

A more sophisticated stair lift ensure safety by not operating whenever the carriage bumps into any barrier, or whenever the armrests, footrest, and seat are not in their right position. This system has also a switch to lock it up when necessary, particularly to keep the kids from unattended use of the stair lift.

Stair lifts intended for outdoor uses are made available to surmount the steps towards the garden or the door in front of the house. This can provide an easy ride for some sun exposure in the early morning. The outdoor stair lifts are as comfortable and quiet as those used indoors and can provide the same convenience and safety measures too.

If you are one of those individuals who have trouble going up and moving down the staircase, you will eventually think of constructing a bathroom or bedroom downstairs just to avoid the stairs. But you don’t need to make this home refurbishing if you have a stair lift installed in your home. GP

Giving The Gift Of Gold Charms

For sparkle your special someone will always have right at hand, give a thoughtfully selected gold charm.

Gold charms strike just the right balance between formal and informal. Versatile and charming, they make the perfect gift for any occasion, from birthdays to holidays, workplace appreciation to Valentine’s Day. Bracelets can be as friendly or as romantic as you like. Whether you go over the top with precious stones or choose funky charms, your gift is sure to be appreciated for the thought behind it.

Gold charms can be found to fit any budget, from a few dollars to several hundred. If you want to be certain of the quality of the piece look for a starting price around $50.

When making your selection, consider these features in order to select the perfect present:

Precious metals: First you’ll want to notice the type of jewelry your special someone wears. Is yellow or white gold the order of the day? Some people are especially selective when it comes to precious metals, so find this out before your purchase. When all else fails, ask someone close to the recipient what they would prefer.

Necklace or Bracelet: Bracelets come in all different lengths, from those fitting very slim wrists to wrap-arounds that circle a wrist multiple times. Necklaces come in all lengths as well, from the currently popular choker to a more dramatic, longer chain. Again, observing the kinds of jewelry the recipient wears regularly can give you clues as to what they will like best. The clasp is something to consider as well. We’ve come a long way from the complicated clasps of yesteryear. Today, there are many options that are both beautiful and easy to fasten with one hand. Some slide in and snap; others resemble a bar that, when passed through a large loop, hold the bracelet or necklace together elegantly. Lobster claw clasps that open when a small tab is pulled back are also popular, and the best are both sturdy and easy to manipulate. Be sure to try the clasp on yourself to determine the ease of use.

Charm Bracelets. One thing to consider if the recipient doesn’t already own one is a charm bracelet. If not, they may enjoy having a piece they can add to in the years to come – and it gives you something you (and others) can always get them as a gift in the future! Combining a meaningful first charm with a charm bracelet can lend special significance to the gift as well.

Sets. You might also consider purchasing a necklace/earring/bracelet ensemble. These jewelry sets, where the pieces match in style or materials, provide many fashion options for the recipient. They can mix and match gold charms as they like, to complement every outfit. Pieces that don’t match exactly but that harmonize with color or design make an impressive gift as well. Who wouldn’t want to receive more than one piece of jewelry for a special occasion?

Choosing the Charm
Now that you know what to look for, you’ll find the best part about giving gold charms is the shopping. This is the fun part where you get to find the charm that will reflect the wearer, or the occasion it’s being given, the best. The possibilities are virtually endless, so you’re sure to find something just right. You may even find one for another special someone—yourself!

Give the Gift of Relaxation This Father's Day

Selecting a memorable Father's Day gift for dad can be a challenge. But this year, you can be sure that his special day will be an unqualified success if you give him one of the most thoughtful gifts of all - a day of pampering and relaxation.

The following gift ideas from Tempur-Pedic, a manufacturer and distributor of Swedish mattresses and pillows, will help your dad keep stress at bay.

* Get hands on. Show dad what mom has been raving about all of these years and give him a gift certificate to a day spa. A massage is the perfect way to ease the tension that he's built up after those hard days at the office. A facial or a pedicure can be both rejuvenating and relaxing as well.

* Oriental therapy. Chinese stress balls, also known as harmony balls, have provided relief from stress since the Ming Dynasty and are great gifts for dads. They're known to relieve arthritis pain and help with carpal tunnel syndrome while calming the mind and diminishing anxiety.

* Tune in to his mind. Opera and classical music have a way of calming the senses. For a gift that's sure to soothe, give dad a CD set of classical favorites.

* Treat him to tee. Believe it or not, spending time out on the green is a relaxing experience for many men. Golf lessons can be a great gift to help him improve his swing and focus on something other than work for a change.

* The ultimate haven of tranquility. Buy him a gift you know he'll use, like a new pillow for a good night's rest. The ComfortPillow by Tempur-Pedic, for example, is made from revolutionary Tempur pressure-relieving material, which provides body-conforming support for a restful and relaxing sleep.

What's interesting about Tempur material is that it conforms to your body's exact contours. When dad lies down on the pillow, pressure is distributed evenly over the entire surface, leaving him with the comfort he desires and the support he needs for a rejuvenating and therapeutic sleep. After use, the pillow returns to its original shape. This dependable gift comes with a three-year limited warranty.
