Vertical Platform Lifts: Accessories and add-ons

A Vertical Platform Lift is designed to allow those in wheelchairs or others who are mobility challenged to traverse the exterior stairs in their home. Vertical platform lifts are very similar to elevators in that they lift a square or rectangle platform straight up and down.

Depending on the model there are many accessories and options that may either be necessary to fit your particular needs, or may just make your life a little easier. Many of the options are specific to the actual lifting requirements of the user. For instance the required lifting height can, depending on the model, be customized to support distances over 12 feet.

Most vertical platform lifts have many built in safety features, but under certain conditions there are some extras that can be very useful. For instance, for those that will be using the platform lift without a wheelchair, or with a nurse, an extra grab rail can be added. If you are in a wheelchair, and depending on the lift height, it may be a good idea to get a locking full height door to ensure safety. If you live in an area of frequent power outages than battery backups are also available.

Remotes are another nice feature offered by many models. All units will, generally, have some sort of keyed directional pad. These are usually 1 directional in that there is one at the bottom to go up and one at the top to go down. For those that are using the lift on their own, or if multiple people will be using the lift it may be a good idea to get one or more remotes. The remotes are usually 2 directional so no matter where the lift is you can raise or lower it with the remote.

Whether you are getting a vertical platform lift for yourself or for someone you love, a qualified dealer can help you find the perfect vertical platform lift that will fit your individual needs.
